The Appalachian Trail
"The Trail approaches treeline at Killington and Stratton mountains, and parts feature strenuous ascents. But, in general, Vermont hiking crosses varied terrain, at lower to mid-range elevations with a fair amount of elevation gain and loss. It passes through forests of paper birch and white pine, wooded mountains, and farm valleys." Begin at the Appalachian Trail/Long Trail parking lot on US Rte. 4 in Mendon.

The Long Trail
"Built by the Green Mountain Club between 1910 and 1930, the Long Trail is the oldest long-distance trail in the United States." Participate in group hikes organized by the Club's Killington Section or set out on your own. Begin at the Appalachian Trail/Long Trail parking lot on US Rte. 4 in Mendon.

Mt Horrid and the Great Cliff Overlook Trail
A moderate to difficult trail 1.4 miles long, beginning in the Green Mountain National Forest in Brandon (18 miles north- northwest of the Edelweiss Lodge)

Mt. Peg Trail
A moderate to difficult trail 2 miles long, beginning in Woodstock. (28.2 miles east of the Edelweiss Lodge)

Queechee Gorge
A trail with spectacular of the the 155 foot deep Quechee Gorge and the Ottauquechee River, beginning in Queechee. (34.8 miles east of the Edelweiss Lodge)

Brownsville Trail
A moderate to difficult trail 6.4 miles long, beginning in Ascutney State Park near the Vermont - New Hampshire border in Brownsville. (39.7 miles southeast of the Edelweiss Lodge)
